Marseilles label Tcheka has great ambitions / 02-08-2009

This major label is preparing to launch its “New Departure” development: Tcheka, the off-the-peg brand with a streetwear feel, founded in Marseilles in 1998 by Nicolas Douillet is aiming to go into overdrive this year. Distributed by over a hundred retailing outlets in France and by as many more in Europe, the label, which has its own outlet at the heart of Marseilles, has just signed up with the Nice factoring company Cogefilog. “We need more time””, explains Nicolas Douillet, who has partnered Alain Pozzo di Borgo since 2005.
“This association will allow us to free up our raw material purchases, production, invoicing, packaging and stockholding. At the stroke of a pen we shall be able to put our hands on new growth leverage ,find new export markets and develop our marketing (promotional literature and packaging), which we need immediately for our business. And also update our Internet site which has been in business for two years now and set up a line of accessories (tights, handbags and hats)”.

TchekaAs far as the fashion collection is concerned, Winter 2009/10 will see some sixty outfits on offer. Tcheka, who made a big impression from the very beginning with its humorous silkscreen prints will be following a musical theme with embroidered and silk-screened motifs. Hi-fi chains, records, double-bases.
At the same time the Marseilles brand has renovated its historic shop window store on the Place de la Corderie in the heart of Marseilles.

The store, with 130 square metres of floor space, exudes an industrial atmosphere with recycled metal and multicoloured walls, apple green, brick red, Mediterranean blue and ochre. The outlet which has a children’s area, offers womens’ fashions alongside the Tcheka label; southern fashion designers like Floh, Dallaga, Charlotte Plate and 2Two. And it has opened up a significant 30 square metre area dedicated to men with Loreak Mendian, Skun Funk, Goodvibes, Criminal, Micro Séries and Juan & Paco.

The design team who, up until now have been housed in the store, will move, in the first quarter  out of Marseilles to Ensuez-la-Redonne and into an ex service station. This rather different site “magic for fashion shows” according to Nicolas Douillet will fulfil the dual role of design studio and showroom.
